Closing Excel linked markets

Postby Ilena » Wed Mar 02, 2011 7:46 pm

Hi,
I tend to set up matches first thing in the morning using separate tabs with separate worksheets linked using the multiple quick link function.
When I come to close a market, I first close the tab then the worksheet, to be able to use that worksheet for a future market. What sometimes happens, though is that I get another instance of Excel is running and I can't link the next market, without killing all other Excel procedures. I must admit if I'm in front of the screen and a strategy that's still in play has missed then I will tend to come out out of the market, being conscious of reducing the number of unnecessary refreshes. This may part of the the problem. Tried in the past closing the workbook first, then the tab, but this appeared to make things worse.
I'm wondering if there's a correct way to close a market when using multiple worksheets.

Many Thanks,
Ilena

I cannot replicate this issue.

I first close the tab then the worksheet

Do you actually mean you close the workbook or are you deleting a tab from an Excel workbook?

I tend to set up matches first thing in the morning using separate tabs with separate worksheets

Do you actually mean separate workbooks, not worksheets?

I asked the above two questions because the following statement doesn't make any sense unless you were actually talking about workbooks, not worksheets.
Tried in the past closing the workbook first, then the tab, but this appeared to make things worse.

Do you know how to use screen recording software? A video demonstrating the problem would make it a lot clearer for me.

Hi Gary,
Sorry, what I meant was individual separate workbooks (sheet1 and MyBets) linked to each match. When the match is finished, or I want to come out of the match I will close the match tab in BA and then the workbook associated with that match (using top right "x" as opposed to file close). If I have other matches and workbooks open I may want to set up a new match with a new page in BA. Sometimes when linking a new workbook to that match I get the error,
"An instance of Excel was found, but could not find workbook. There could be an invisible Excel instance running in the background. Check you have saved your spreadsheets and use the kill all Excel processes button."
I'm assuming it's the way I'm closing the prior workbook, but there doesn't seem to be any consistency to it.
I don't have any recording software, but I'll see if I can get hold of some.

Many Thanks,
Ilena

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
