I have fixed the problem, but the release is not quite ready. It will be released in a few days. Once again please accept my apologies. It just wasn't quite robust enough to cope on this occasion, but it will if the same thing happens again. It could be months before this particular error is enountered which is why it hasn't happened before.

Sorry, I haven't got it ready in time for today's update. Your fix is in but there are other things I want to change before release.

Your connection does not appear to be very reliable. This time it's not the same problem. It did send the offset bets to Betfair, but the requests timed out. There's no 100% way of knowing if a bet has been placed or not if the request times out.

It would be very risky to code it to re-attempt the bet in case it gets through later. It could for example time out after 30 seconds, BA could check the latest list of bets and see it's not there so place the bet again. In theory the first bet could still get through after 35 seconds so the bet is placed twice. I am reluctant to make BA do this.

It's not normally an issue for other users. Bet requests timing our is quite rare.

Good reply Gary..i was thinking along the same lines after looking at it...I think i'll have to take the early prices on evening races over here(aus)..its just that everything went ok in the race 10 mins b4 hand which,if it hadn't i would of been quids in as the damn thing won at 9.00 something...but i did notice the bets having trouble confirming themselves originally whicn made me suspicious'
At the end of the day over the month its cost me a lot of money, around 10 points, which is of course a months money when you work on a 55% sr.thanks anyway mate.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
