In-running Betting Problem with BA

Postby Kevsy » Sat Mar 25, 2006 6:25 pm

This past week I have been having problems getting bets on. It works fine for a time then I get error messages saying something about unexpected error messages received from server. This either means the bet isn't placed or it takes up to ten seconds to place. Betting In-running this pretty much means I can't use the BA as I can't depend on my instruction reaching betfair to get a price matched in time. Has anybody any suggestions?

I've had similar experiences as well. What I noticed was that the ping time was increasing from an average of 800ms to over 6000ms when I tried to place a bet in-running. I don't know if it was due to being a Saturday or the betfair server was busy, but I lost a few ££'s because BA was running too slow. I have the refresh rate set at 0.5. :(

Lots of problems with the betfair server since the colours upgrade although I found it to be a little better in the past week.

Have you tried using www2.betfair.com?

Ok, I have found that if you have too many market windows open at the same time the refresh rate really suffers. I am now using just one market window at a time and it seems to be okay now.

I had tried the www2 site and had the same problems. Bman I usually use 5 tabs. I used one tab this afternoon and added the five markets to the quick pick list instead. This seemed to make a difference. I was still seeing the odd error messages but all my bets went through so I'll carry on during the week and see what happens.

I have done everything I can to try and make the program as reliable as possible, but the responses from Betfair's server are very erratic. You will probably find that things change for the better in a few weeks when the REAL problem is solved. I don't think it's down to my program and I hope to be vindicated. I concede that there are bugs and there always have been, but how else can you explain some people having nothing but problems and others none.

I agree Gary and I am definetley not criticising your programme in any way. I am very grateful to be able to use it as its better than most of the subscription programmes for what I do. I have a couple of my own and Its a nightmare when betfair change anything. What is worse is that even though we pay to subscribe to the API they don't even bother to tell you what has changed when they do mess about with the code.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
