Horse Markets

Postby mak » Thu Jul 21, 2011 4:28 pm

To be honest i have seen only 5-6 races in my life and my knowledge about the "sport" is much less than small.

From what I am reading on the forums usually the races between July and August are less interest with less competition. (i don't count big meetings etc)

Can someone tell me if there are any differences between today (21 Jul) and yesterday's meetings?

Probably I am not able to express right my question, but I am trying to explain why my bots performed well yesterday and today (until now) not

I am not complaining, and i know that it could be a coincidence or something like that just, just trying to understand the market "bot wise" and eliminate or not the meetings differences (interest or anything)

This will depend on what your bots do but as far as I'm concerned, almost all of my horse racing bots now don't work. Things have been going downhill for me for a while but this week they've all come to a grinding halt.
Over the past couple of years I've seen the markets I work in increase in volatility, decrease in liquidity and overall are nothing like the data my bots are based on anymore. Horse racing in running markets have now become worthless for me and so I've finally decided to call it a day.

Betfair has very little to offer me as the prices I get on Pinnacle for my tennis bets are almost as good as those on Betfair and after taking the PC into account, they are much better. I can also get on in a much bigger way because I tend to bet early, while there is still value. At those times there is very little liquidity on Betfair.

One day Betfair might become viable again but I doubt it as I believe they are going in the wrong direction. I'll keep with Gruss for a while but I suspect the time is close at hand where there is little point in using it.

Its a great shame as Betfair has given me a good income for a few years but I suppose nothing lasts forever. I have other irons in the fire and I shall be persuing those and they'll probably make a welcome change from sitting in front of my computers for hours on end.

I may get a life :)

Thanks for your feedback Doris
Especially during this weekend couldn't understand anything..

Odds where changing in a very strange way with many fluctuations
As I understand some players "moving" to btaq, others were complain about atr delay, and it is vacation time also...

Do your bots bet in play, mak? ATR delay was increased recently giving the track/fast pic players a massive advantage. You could look at any differences between ATR and RUK tracks if you play in running.

Captain yes, my bots bet only in play. I thought also about it.
Can you explain further how I could have a look at the differences between ATR and RUK tracks.. please?

ATR is about 5 seconds behind live now mak so it's a lot easier for the sharks to profit. You'll find few prices out of line as they'll either just not be being put up , taken by x matching or 'live' players before your bot has a chance to pick them off or get undercut.

With RUK the delay isn't as large so you've still got recreational players still happy to punt off tv pictures which means more liquidity and closer to true prices etc.

There's a list of tracks and TV feeds here http://www.racing-index.com/race-course/ you can see if it's ATR courses that are underperforming or everything.

I've had to change a lot of my strategies just because it's getting to the stage where you're flogging a dead horse these days IR due to all the changes and decreased cash. Whether that's due to pics delays , falling liquidity, migration to betdaq, PC charges doesn't really matter, it's how you adapt to them that counts.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
