Lay the field, cancel remaining. Help please.

Postby loper1 » Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:23 am

Yesterday I had to go out prior to the last 2 races at Kempton, 18.50 and 19.20

I left the same bet in the system for both races, that is lay the field inrunning but cancel the rest when 1 runner is matched at the specified odds.

In both races a remarkable coincidence occured. The first horse to touch the odds requested was only matched for part of my bet before drifting back out again. Less than half the stake was matched in both instances so my understanding is that the remaining lays of the rest of the field would not be cancelled because the first lay had not been fully filled.

Other runners in the race, not least the winners! went way below the lay odds requested, yet none were matched.

Is my understanding of the rule wrong?

Several times I have laid 2 runners for the complete amount in the same race leading me to assume that the 2nd lay was matched before the first was matched to the full amount. This conflicts with the logic of the last 2 races at Kempton yesterday.

Help please!!!

Also, I find that having set up the 'lay the field' function pre race and ticked the 'cancel remaining when matched' box, if I then decide to amend the lay odds of one of the runners by left clicking on the odds in the bets manager window, thus bringing up the Update Bet sub window, the cancel remaining function ceases to work despite the cancel box remaining ticked.

Is this the intention or is this a bug? :?

Sorry, it doesn't work how you expected. It will cancel the remaining bets whether any of them are matched or partially matched. This is why the other bets were not matched, they were cancelled.

The intention isn't to get bets matched on more than one selection. As soon as one is even partially matched the rest are cancelled so that you are only matched on one selection. If you had bets matched on more than one horse on previous races it must have been because they both got matched before one of them could be cancelled.

This is a bug. I will fix it.

Also are you aware that changing markets after placing the bets will prevent it from working? You need to leave the market open. Use a separate tab page for each race. This could be another reason why you had multiple bets matched.

Thanks Gary.

I understand now. I couldn't believe it when I got only partially matched two races running!

God knows what the chances of that are? :?

it was ironic that I'd used 2 windows correctly. If I'd cocked it up and closed one and opened another I would have cleaned up!

As for the bug, it is very useful to be able to amend odds individually having laid the field as a reaction to the volatility of the market. Will this be easy to fix?

It's already fixed. I will release the update in the morning.

I can't see how it could completely fail. Are you sure you didn't change markets after placing the bets or tick the option after placing the bets?

Gary,

I have laid the field several times today with the cancel when matched box ticked. I have adjusted the price of one or more horses using the update box and the previous fault of not cancelling the field when matched has returned. I have updated to ver 1.1.0.66x82 since last using the update box. Your fix had worked before that.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
