Multiple Gruss Windows

Postby loper1 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 3:45 pm

I normally have 3 open at one time but today Gruss is only allowing me to open 1 window.

I get the error message ;-

System.Net.Webexception. Unable to connect to the remote server.

No probs opening the first window, just the 2nd. :?

May be a connection problem your end. Try rebooting PC and router.

The rest of the error message reads as follows.

System.Net.WebException:AA connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

You could try the Beta version. See http://gruss-software.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

I do think though you are having some kind of connection issue at your end.

I'll try that.

It's a strange one alright. As I say, I have no problem opening the first window and logging in.

I get up the second window and enter my login. Press OK and then it just stalls for a good 30 secs or so before coming back with the error message I've posted above.

Tried the beta version and same result.

Should I try a system restore just in case something's occurred in the last 2 days to my operating system?

Hi,

It's very odd because that particular error messsage is usually because Betting Assistant is being actively blocked on your pc by software such as a firewall but since you have successfully opened one instance it doesn't make sense.

It's definitely worth trying a system restore to a date when it was working.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark.

I've done the system restore but still have problems. But slightly different!

Having opened loper1 screen successfully as before, I tried loper2 again.

Now it came back with the top line of the loper2 screen, account balance, exposure commission etc, but with N/A instead of values. As before there was no profile or sub expires data, just the BA version data. The rest of the screen was blank.

Anyway, I cancelled the loper2 screen and opened up BA again, changing the profile to my third incarnation, loper3 in the login box. THis time albeit very slowly, the loper3 profile screen appeared!!!

My account balance was there, current subscription expiry details and all my preset preferences. Only thing missing is the commission rate which says N/A.

The main message about Betfair 9th March 2011 new T & Cs is all there. The only other thing missing is the Quick pick list. The oblong box saying 'Fetching markets. Please wait. (retry no xx)' is whirling away with green bars half way along the box. Currently retry 48 and rising!!!

Hope you can understand the gist of this. I am baffled beyond bafflement!

On retry 52 now!

Hi,

The getting stuck on fetching markets is usually when trying to fetch the Australian markets when it has to fetch from the Australian server.
Basically it's timing out before getting a response which can be indicative of a poor internet connection or it can be the Betfair server in Australia which is having a problem.
You can get round this by excluding the Australian markets as a temporary fix.
Whilst it is retrying open Preferences and click on the "Quick pick list / markets" tab and then untick the option that says "Include Australian markets".
The markets should then load ok albeit you won't be able to select any Australian markets.
As I say it is a tempoaray fix or if you don't really bet on Australian markets then a permanent one.
But you should consider checking your internet connection and/or maybe move to a more reliable service provider if it is causing the problem.

Regards,
Mark

Thanks Mark.

Having done a system restore which made a small difference as mentioned, this morning before trying to connect, I looked at my firewall settings and found that BA had a setting of outward only. I changed this to full and now the problem seems to be resolved.

I cant see why this or a bad internet connection allows me to use BA perfectly well with one window open but not two?

I'll see how things go during the busy afternoon session.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
