Betting Assistant/Excel interface slow

Postby davez » Sat Oct 13, 2012 3:19 am

Hi, I know this is probably a BF issue (again) but today linking Aussie markets to my excel worksheets is very slow & once done refresh's are spasmodically updating & worksheet_change events are getting missed, rendering BA almost unusable for my purposes.

I have tried a couple of different internet connections, which are both working fine otherwise, & have had no guidance from BF, so guess will go & mow the lawn or something....

Well it appears others have not been experiencing the same problems as I have today so I reinstalled BA & checked my spreadsheets for errors with little improvement so now at a dead end.

Any ideas Gary or anyone else on how to solve this? Basically the issues are -

- slow selection of markets & linking to spreadsheets, I usually need to 'refresh' many times to bring up the workbook/worksheet names.

- once they are linked there is a noticeable lag in market refreshes & as a result worksheet_change events are missed or run 5-10 seconds behind time. My default refresh rate is 1sec, & each linked spreadsheet updates once a minute until 2 minutes before start time when they switch to 1 sec updates.

I usually have between 20 & 50 worksheets linked & have been doing so for over a year without any real issues until the last few days.

There are no issues with my Internet connection & I have also tried connecting with my phones wifi hotspot with no difference.

Thanks for any help guys.

Have you changed anything in your spreadsheets recently? Do you have the same issues if you link to blank new workbooks?

Just a post out of interest which may help others -

I noted that one excel workbook I use has a multitude of calculations which had bloated & slowed down the general use of it.

Linking multiple worksheets to BA would often result in the first problem I listed in my 2nd post here - I found a way around this is to set excel workbook calculations to manual prior to linking & then set back to automatic after. I then run a macro which then converts all fixed formula's to their values, which reduces overall workload & reduces file size.

Clearly this is not a BA issue, just the result long overused, cluttered & oversized excel workbook, my bad

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
