Back after Lay

Postby Royville » Tue Nov 06, 2012 12:33 pm

Hi all,

Apologies if this seems a dumb question or has been asked before, - I have searched but to no avail.

Could someone advise me please on how modify a sheet which just lays my selections, so that if the selection drops below certain odds when inplay it places a back bet.

Many thanks

Hi,

You could use the Tick Offset trigger modifier.

So instead of just using LAY as the trigger, you could use LAY-Tn where n represents the number of ticks difference from the lay bet's matched odds to where you want the back bet to be matched.

There are also options for setting the Tick Offset using fixed odds for the back bet or as a percentage of the matched lay odds and also for greening up so that if your Tick Offset back bet gets matched you get the same profit whichever selection goes on to win.

Mark

Hi Mark, - Thank you so much for your help.

I've only ever used BACK or LAY before so this is very new to me.

Im going to try the fixed odds modifier e.g. LAY-SLFn instead of LAY. Do I need to set any options in BA itself or will it be done automaticaly from the spreadsheet?

Again, Many Thanks to you.

Hi,

Nothing to set in BA, Excel triggers are all self contained.

Hi Mark,

Can't seem to get it working I'm afraid.
I think I remember reading that the bet reference needs to be cleared before another bet can be placed. If this is the case what would be the best way to achieve this?

Am I right in saying that the bet ref prevents other bets being placed so this would need to be removed just before the 'Stop Loss' part of the bet is placed?

Regards
Royville.

HI Chap, not correct.
if you use the excel triger"LAY-SLT5" for example if the bet LAY is taken and full matched then the STop loss will be fired in if the odds rise above 5 ticks.....now where you may run into trouble eg the stop loss not being placed is if it were the other way around and the stop loss was a lay because if it is a long way from the primary bet then betfair sometimes dont let it go in because of the cost implications to you.....but you must use captals for the trigger command and no speach marks and no spaces

just to clarify, if you are using a triggerd bet with modifyers then you are not correct...you do not have to issue a CLEAR command.......if you are trying to place the bet via the spread sheet from another functional equasion they yes you have to issue the CLEAR command first....

Hi Dave, Thanks for your replies.

To bring you up to date:
It seemed that no matter what I tried I could not get anything working. Gary has since looked into it and found a bug in BA Betdaq which he has now rectified with an update. I tried the updated version today with 'LAY-SLF1.7-S-IP', and a bet was fired this time but cancelled almost immediately afterwards, the selection won and I lost. I don't know why I used that particular trigger, it just seemed a good idea at the time. Basically I just don't know enough about all these triggers or what they do.

The bottom line is that I just want to place a lay bet on a selection between about 4 - 8 (either before or after the off) and if the odds drop below around 2 then place some kind of bet to 'get me out of the situation so I lose nothing or win nothing.

I thought a stop loss bet would be the thing to use but I see most stoploss bets are used with tick offset bets. Unfortunately I have no idea about tick offsets, or what they do.

Any thoughts, comments or advice would be greatly appreciated mate.
Regards
Roy.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
