Internet Explorer 8 Automation

Postby dgs2001 » Tue May 19, 2009 9:28 pm

Hi All

Can anyone tell me why IE8 returns an automation error - the server disconnected from its client. with this code :-
Code: Select all
Set ie = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
    With ie
        .Visible = True
        .navigate "https://reg.racingpost.com/modal_dialog/login.sd"
Do Until (.ReadyState = 4 And Not .Busy): DoEvents: Loop

It works fine with IE7 (which I have now gone back to.)

No idea. If it helps I can confirm your code works on my PC with IE8. Does it happen every time or is it intermittent? I sometimes have a weird problem in IE8 when I open a new tab and cannot open any pages, it could be a related issue.

Also have you isolated which statement it fails on? If it's the CreateObject statement then the server it is talking about is internet explorer, not the website which was my initial thought. If this is the case then it may be worth re-installing IE8 as the COM server may not be installed correctly.

Gary
Thanks for trying.
So far it seems to happen every time, and also happens on my laptop which is why I thought it might be an IE8 thing.

The statement highlighted is the
Code: Select all
Do Until (.ReadyState = 4 And Not .Busy): DoEvents: Loop

My only other thought is something to do with protected mode as I have the Racing Post site set to open outside Protected Mode.
I will trawl the net and other forums to see what else I may be able to find out.

Hmmm

Interesting
I just tried again on my laptop and I get a different error.
Run-time Error '-2147467259 (80004005)

Automation Error
Unspecified Error

however on clicking Debug it is the same line which is highlighted
Do Until (.Readystate =4 And Not .Busy)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
