using COM on windows 8

Postby neeeel » Tue Sep 30, 2014 7:00 pm

I am trying to get BA to work with the COM server on windows 8. When it reaches the set statement,
set ba = new bettingassistantCom.comclass

you get an "active X cant create component" error message. I have been through the steps in

http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5975

to try and register the DLLs with the registry, when I run the regasm command, it says registered succesfully, but I am still getting the ActiveX error. When I run the regsvr 32 command I get the message

" the module "BettingAssistantCom was loaded but the entry point DLLRegisterServer was not found"

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling BA, but nothing helps.

Anyone have any ideas? Its Excel 2010 and windows 8.1 I think

thanks

Is it 32 bit or 64 bit Windows?

Try uninstalling BA then use our utility to remove all entries from the registry so you can do a clean install.

Run the utility from http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/Betting ... gistry.exe

Does that help?

hi, I have run the utility, and reinstalled BA. It has worked somewhat, in that, when I open the Excel sheet manually, and test it by setting the ba object, it works, and I can place bets via COM etc. The only problem now is that when I go to log prices, the sheet doesnt show up in the drop down boxes in the Log Current Prices window. If I use the Browse button, then the ActiveX error re-occurs.

It seems like it must be to do with permissions in excel or something. I have checked that macros and ActiveX are enabled in the trust settings, disabled protected view, and anything else I can think of, but still no luck

any further ideas?

If you log prices on a new workbook that doesn't include the COM object does the same problem occur? Does it appear to be the specific workbook containing the COM object?

Thanks for all your help Gary. Apparently its sorted now. The person who was having the problem got an engineer in , and they made a few adjustments , including something to do with the Firewall ( not sure of the details) . Is it possible that the firewall was causing the problem?

A firewall can certainly cause issues with COM, but not ActiveX errors so maybe some other security software was causing the issue which he changed.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
