5 second delay causing spreadsheet to freeze

Postby Drunkenight » Fri Apr 17, 2015 3:00 pm

During a live match, I have a bet out on team A and a bet out on team B automated from excel. At some point the spreadsheet will decide to cancel the bet on team A and create a new bet on team A. No problem so far.

The bet on team A is cancelled and then excel creates a new bet on team A. The problem is that while I am putting out a new bet on team A there is a delay, typically 5 seconds. During this 5 second delay the spreadsheet freezes (doesn't update). This means that the bet on team B is not monitored during these 5 seconds and can't be cancelled by the spreadsheet if the situation becomes unfavourable.

So the problem is that when a new bet is being processed during a live match (5 second delay) the spreadsheet doesn't update and that means that you are unable to monitor any of the other bets you may have out on the market.

Does anyone have any thoughts about how I could get around this?

Perhaps I need to create a second/separate spreadsheet that deals with cancelling bets or perhaps write some VBA to cancel the bets.

Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Garry will correct me but I think when a bet is placed from excel trigger ba stops updating by design waiting for response from bf about the bet - matched etc -
You can place the bet via com and vba and I think you will be fine (???).
Though you have to create further code to monitor if the bet was matched, how much , cancel it later via com etc
I dont know why ba is created this way.
Garry can you change this?
A lot of code may be needed

Hi Alrodopial,
Thanks for the comments. Yes, I expect you are right and I agree it would be great if this can be changed. It is probably designed this way to stop you placing multiple bets on a selection. The spreadsheet stops updating until the status of the current bet you are placing is known. For example if the first bet was matched or partially matched etc.

However, this still has the drawback of not allowing you to cancel bets on other selections or having an updated view of the market while the bet placement (5 second delay) is in progress. I wonder if there could be a way of allowing the spreadsheet to continue updating while you are waiting for the bet placement. In this case there would have to be some kind of safety feature to stop you placing multiple bets. For example, when the 'Bet ref' column is populated by 'Pending' (because you are currently placing a bet) no other bets can be placed on that selection.

Interesting idea about placing the bet via com. I have never tried placing any bets via the com interface. I am guessing that this would be quite a lot of work, but maybe worth it if I am able to continually monitor the market and bets I have out on other selections. How difficult would this be?

At the moment I have found a round about way to solve this. For a two selection market, like tennis, I have two tabs open and two spreadsheets open. One tab and one spreadsheet open for the first player and one tab and one spreadsheet open for the second player. Not ideal, but at least I can monitor bets out on each player. However with 3 selection markets, like football, it just becomes unmanageable.

Any other thoughts would be most welcome.

I will create something in the far future but for the moment can someone point us the guideline?
not the exact code but what to look for, order etc
Os?
Captain?

Garry can you make it available with a tick in the options - with a WARNING that you (client) are doing it with your own risk ( loops etc )

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
