Lay bet triggered too soon

Postby Trickle » Sat Oct 19, 2024 9:54 am

Hi all

I have a problem using an Excel sheet on correct score betting.

I'm dutching seven correct scores (fully matched) before kick-off and have CLOSEC triggers set on all seven to trigger if the lay price for 1-1 becomes unavailable (H9<1) or the Any Other Home Win lay odds (H21) are less than 3. I'm getting lay bets being triggered on four of the seven around 15 or 20 minutes into the match with the score at 0-0. The transaction log is showing these lay bets with the phrase "(Fill or Update)" after the bet.

My formula in the Trigger cell for 2-1 is:

=IF(AND(H14/F14>0.95,$Z$1>0,V14<1),"BACK",IF(AND(H14/F14>0.92,V14>0,$H$9<1),"CLOSEC",IF(AND(H14/F14>0.92,V14>0,$H$21/$F$21>0.92,$H$21>1,$H$21<3),"CLOSEC","")))

Formulas for other scores I use are similar - all are set to close out on 1-1 not being available or Any Other Home Win shortening below 3.

I'm puzzled why any scores are being closed out at 0-0 and also why only four of the seven are being closed out.

Any enlightenment (including that I'm doing something really stupid) would be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance

Sorry - just spotted what's wrong. The liquidity check part (H6/F6) should be the other way round (F6/H6).

Apologies for any time wasted.

Actually - it's still laying off at 0-0. This time on only two of the scores. Very puzzling.

Hard to know why it's triggering but if your formulas are correct you probably need to tighten them up as the sheet will simply be responding to whatever data it reads.

Always a bit risky using the available odds on the correct score markets to trigger bets as many times you'll get rogue data sent from things like suspensions, disallowed goals and so on. Many of the lesser liquid markets are pretty much run by other bots who withdraw all offers at the slightest suggestion something has happen. To get round some issues many of us will only trigger bets once the market has been stable for at least 5 seconds or so and the win and lay book percentages are in line with where the market should be , say 105% - 95%.

Only other thing you can do to try to see where it's going wrong is to amend your code so it takes a snapshot of the market odds etc once a bet has been placed so if anything does go astray you can refer back to the odds that were on offer at that time.

Many thanks Captain - some really good suggestions. I've got liquidity checks built in to the formulas, but the rogue data thing is a worry. I'm keeping the stakes as small as possible while testing an ironing out the wrinkles.

Best regards

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
