Quick Pick List - horse racing delayed start times

Postby mparish » Fri Oct 18, 2024 10:49 pm

Quick pick list is set to auto select next race at actual off previous race but if previous race is delayed then it will not move to next race in quick pick list.
Tried the setting in Options for quick pick list where you set it to periodically check start times and it could potentially change the order in quick pick list but it never seems to update quick pick list with any new start times.
I noticed that betfair does change start times on delayed races and also if you click the refresh button above the markets in betting assistant then it does show the updated race starting time as per betfair updated time.
This is causing my linked excel sheets to not move to next race.
I am considering putting a next race trigger in excel if the race timer is say 120 seconds over due , but the whole system works really well if i have quick pick auto selecting at actual off previous race.
Hoping someone has an idea why quick pick list not changing according to betfair updated start times or workarounds ???

Many Thanks
Mark

I am reviewing the feature that checks for changed start times and will get back to you.

It wasn't checking for time changes if the scheduled start time had passed, only if it was in the future. I have changed it to continue checking up until the market goes in play or is closed. I now have to make it handle selecting the next race correctly as this can result in the current selected race moving up the list which will skip the races in between. I will release an update as soon as I can.

Thanks heaps Gary.. I think that exact thing happened to me yesterday where a race delay occurred and the current race moved up the quick pick list and then it seemed to skip a few races in quick pick cause current race was not showing correct time, luckily i was watching and was able to select the skipped races manually anyway. Anyway sounds like you have correctly identified the issue and are on the case. Seems like this will make handling race delays much easier.. Cheers

You can now install Version 1.3.2.8h which should change the times if changed after previous scheduled time.

Oh wow that is a big improvement. I have been manually updating for many years via a button on the results sheet - just placed there as it was convenient so have my fingers crossed. Toes as well. :D

Hi Gary,

Installed latest betting assistant but had some odd behavior after the changes.

There were some races Friday, Saturday in Australia that were delayed multiple times and with 8 pages opened in betting assistant, about 2-3 pages were able to get updated race times as it changed according to Betfair starting time and then change quick pick order worked really well but the other pages were unable to get updated race times.

As a workaround I manually sent through a -3.33 from excel which then reloads the market and all is good but you would then need to be very careful bets were not sent through again as you approach a race time that was consistently getting put back.

Seems like there is something stopping all pages opened in betting assistant from getting updated race times or they are not checking in properly for the updated time ?

Will keep an eye on things moving forward but wondering if you have any ideas as to why all open pages would not load delayed race times.

Thanks
Mark

It's because the same markets are on several tabs. They are being checked multiple times at the same time and are clashing. I've changed it to only check each unique market once and then apply changes to all tabs. Please install Version 1.3.2.8k

Hi Gary,

Testing did not go well with version v1.3.2.8k. I had quick pick list set to auto select at actual off for next race and most race changes were causing excel spreadsheet to freeze even though quick pick seemed to change ok.

I unchecked option in preferences for periodically check start times and problem went away but of course then race delays caused issues with quick pick list but at least excel was not freezing.

Also rolled back to version v1.3.2.6g and no problems with periodically check start times ticked.

Could just be my excel spreadsheets doing something odd but wondering if anyone else experiencing same issue with the latest version v1.3.2.8k or if you have any ideas.

Do you think the latest changes to how periodically check start times works has caused a separate issue with races changing and excel freezing?

Cheers
Mark

I will have to test this over a number of days to see if I can replicate. I know of another user without this issue, but they use a specific time before off.

Also could you send a diagnostic log for one of the days it froze to admin@gruss-software.co.uk. Select “open settings folder” from the options menu and you will find the logs in the “Diagnostic Logs” folder.

The excel sheet is still responsive so excel is ok but the timer for counting down to next race is not moving anymore and also if you try and send through anything from cell Q2 it does not work as in it just stays in the cell.

To get out of this stuck state, if you manually change to another race in quick pick list it seems to get the excel sheet responding again.

I've sent through the diagnostic log from today where this happened numerous times.

Also I've got a really basic excel sheet connected and will do some testing on that to see if it still happens or if I can work out anything in my sheet that could be causing it and let you know if I discover anything..

Cheers

I think the issue may have been caused by it not handling timeouts to poll requests correctly.

Please try Version 1.3.2.8m

Yes.. with the new version v1.3.2.8m there are no issues with excel sheets not responding at race changes, it all works really well now.

I'll see how race delays are functioning in the quick pick list but things are looking good.

Thanks again, really happy :)

One last update to confirm all working really well, the quick pick list updates race time changes as expected and no more issues with excel.

Thanks very much for help :)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
