Postby tyhsports » Fri Sep 21, 2007 11:31 am

hi.
as the title suggests can this be done,?
can anyone show me how to set it up or if it cant be done could you allow it to be done gary?
free office software is more appealing than the huge cost of microsoft.

It's not possible at the moment, but is amongst our future plans as it would give as an edge over the competition. I am currently working on a COM interface for Betting Assistant so if open office can access COM objects (I think there's a distro which includes the VBA language) then it will be possible using VBA if you can program a little.

Just a note for those wanting to use oOo with BA.

Macro's are writeable in open office, but you need to write them in Basic, not VBA as with excel.
For those that didn't know ;)

yes tyhsports - still need to wait for Gary to upgrade.

Was just trying to stop some disappointment if some others were hoping to use vba with oOo.

Our IT department introduced it where i work and according to some literature they had, you should be able to convert excel macros to work with oOo. I spent half a day digging around the internet looking for how to do this as i use alot of macros at work and finally found the answer. oOo will convert your excel macro to note form (like putting a ' infront of text in excel vba will make it turn green), but you then need to rewrite the code in Basic!!

I've never tried programming in basic, except maybe on an old BBC computer when i was leaving school. I had to explain this to our IT department, and anyone that used any of my workbooks had to have Excel reinstalled and inform IT so that they knew how many licences were being used.

I'm sure some people will be happy with using oOo, but wanted to point out that to programme with it you may need to learn BASIC.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
