Gruss STICKY in running been like it for a few weeks

Postby BroadswordCalling » Wed Oct 22, 2008 5:06 pm

Asking on the BF forum seems quite a few people have the same problem

quite often there is very little money on the lay side or at much bigger odds

I'm losing the ability to green up in running yet looking at the amounts matched. Just had a 10.0 back that was matched at 1.68 and all rates down to 1.54 yet gruss showed 1.5ish for about half a second .

Any help pls ??

I posted the following on Betfair's horse racing forum.

Don't know what to say really. We haven't released an official update for months and it has been fine, it's not the software. The problem is either at Betfair's end or on one of the servers on the route to Betfair's server. It's totally beyond our control. We cannot release an update to fix it because there is nothing to change. If it was the software it would affect all users and it doesn't.

I've asked the Betfair API team if they have any ideas and am waiting for a response.

Same problem here, very bad "stickiness" in running for the last few days.
Also I got slower bet placement in running than usual , some heavy losses on my side for the past few days. Wouldn't be surprised if Betfair is doing that on purpose, they made clear with recent changes (cross matching + premium tax) that "free lunchers" are not welcome.

Interesting comments. I've found the past week more difficult to get on in-running (horse racing) and think its actually a lack of liquidity rather than anything else but I may be wrong.
I have seen big prices that I never get close to but I think thats because the amounts available on each price step was only about £2 or £3.
I'm going to monitor the situation over the next couple of weeks to see what happens however, so it would be good if others commented if they have any useful feedback.

Though this is technically not a problem with the Gruss software, it certainly is infuriating. I like many many others have experienced these problems and in all honesty I wouldnt be supprised if connection and refreshing bet placing etc problems weren't all down to betfair, who frankly I dont think will be completely happy until they have used their own database inside information on how people make money for themselves and forced all 'winners' out.
Premium, cross matching then what?
Confidence in them is at an all time low

I've noticed this in the last few weeks, seems ok pre off but as soon as its inplay BA slows considerably.

Bet placement is a lot slower in running, pre off its 256ms inplay it goes to 1310ms for me, and God forbid if I try to green up with less than the minimum stake as it tales 7 seconds!!

Has anyone had any feedback as to the cause, as in running is becoming unplayable at the moment

If you are referring to the response time on placing bets then 1310ms is not unreasonable as it includes the 1000ms delay imposed by Betfair and is therefore comparable with the response time before the off.

Also if your green up stake is less than the minimum stake it will take a minimum of 3 seconds as it takes 3 transactions to do this because it's not officially allowed by Betfair. It has always been like this.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
